Ode To Green Tea

Matcha, jasmine, gunpowder, hot, warm, iced, cookies, pocky, ice cream—

I love all your forms and textures,

Your bitterness a splendid rapture

Upon my tongue.

I love you too much to drink you every day

From my kitchen or the local coffee shop.

It has to be a special occasion:

My birthday,

Halloween,

A perfect day to read outside,

Whenever I read or write poetry,

Whenever the book I’m reading has an overwhelming presence of tea

That demands me to make either a pot or cup of it.

I love you so much

Due to the first time I drank you

Was when I was crying from a broken promise.
